Many of us have picked up a piece of hardware or software from the store and taken it home to set up or use only to find that no manual or set of instructions came with it. David Pogues "The Missing Manual" series of books provide a comprehensive set of ideas and steps for getting more out of the products and services we use, or would like to.

David has become somewhat of a celebrity in the community of technology journalist. Not only does David put together some fact filled and easy to read books but has also served as a tech correspondent for CBS and has a very active column with The New York Times.

Book from Author David PogueAs an author, David found that many times with technology, a product was released and the information on how to use or set up the product was lacking. David's answer to this was the Missing Manual Series launched in 1999. David had previously cut some teeth on the Dummies series putting out seven books on a variety of topics. David also put out a joke book that poked fun at one of the largest technology companies, the book was called The Micro-Sloth Joke Book. In 2000, David decided to form Pogue Press with some help from O'Reilly and since then has put out about 30 information rich titles.

Book from Author David PogueOne of our favorite most recent titles is iMovie 08 and iDVD, The Missing Manual.  David not only lays out some ways to get the most out of these Mac programs but also gives readers the tips to shoot better videos! Another title we enjoyed was "The Internet - The Missing Manual." Its a pretty broad subject but David and co-author J.D. Biersdorfer fill the 442 pages with information on Email to Podcast to keeping kids safer online just to name a few.

Listen in on the segment with Author David Pogue and find out what to expect with the subject of one of his upcoming titles on the anticipated Microsoft Windows Vista and some other ways to get info on tech from David Pogue. We'll also find out why David loves the latest Tivo!
