It has already been an interesting year in the world of politics with the race for the presidency of the United States. As we get closer to Voting, the networks such as CNN, Fox, MSNBC and even the business networks are paying more attention at not only the race for president but the way talk shows, radio and even comics look at the process.
The Red State Update began in the minds of Travis Harmon and Jonathan Shockley. The two created a video following for the Travis and Jonathan Show which became intersperced with the likeable and tongue in cheek Red State Update with Jackie and Dunlap. The Characters live a simple life, parallel in many ways to the average blue coller worker. With over 10 million views of the videos on YouTube and Myspace.
The popularity of these two, tell it like it is southern men, has now extended to the audio world with a CD titled "How Freedom Sounds." It doesn't take long to figure out how the two feel politically and all the while having a good laugh at it. In July of 2007, CNN featured a Red State Update during its YouTube Democratic debate.
The younger character of Dunlap wears a trademark American Flag T-Shirt who was quoted in a press release from Dualtone Records, the CD label for How Freedom Sounds, as saying "I just bought a Rutherford County School Bus and I am having it converted into a Rolling Awesome Party Carriage..." Jackie runs a market in Murfeesboro, Tennesee, like overalls and the simple things in life. He was quoted talking about the How Freedom Sounds CD as saying "I think we made a pretty good record that'll stand the test of time, like George Jones' I Am What I Am or Garth Brooks' Chris Gaines. I ain't saying I'm Dottie West, God Bless Her Soul, but I did the best I could. When I was a boy, I used to sing in a choir. Course, That was back when they'd let you smoke in church."
The CD is out in stores now and on Amazon, Red State Updates will continue on YouTube as well as MySpace. Tune in to listen to Jackie and Dunlap share some views on Technology and the Internet with TechtalkRadio.
