I've heard the expression before that time is money, in the case of the BlueX Gold Lantern product, time is music. We first got a glimpse of the Gold Lantern BlueX watch when Jim Barry from the Consumer Electronics Association stopped by the KOLD TV studios for an Episode of Tech Tuesday. During the Digital Answer Man tour, Jim visits Radio and Television stations showing off gadgets and products from CEA Members. It wasn't but 30 minutes after the episode aired that we received a great number of emails wanting to get more information about the Gold Lantern Bluex watch and headset. What appealed to many from the emails we received was the concept oGold Lantern BlueX Watch and Headsetf not having to carry around an MP3 Player or worry about wires getting in the way of the person on the go. For me, this is an answer to my tendency to misplace items and losing a audio player wouldn't sit well with me, having it strapped to my wrist may be what I need.

What Gold Lantern has done is packaged a nice looking Men and Women's watch with 1GB of on board storage. The rugged design of this water resistant watch features all the controls on the watch for play, stop, forward and track selection as you would find on a standard MP3 player. A port on the side of the watch is used for charging the watch as well as uploading your MP3 or WMA audio files. Plugging the included special USB cable into the watch will allow the computer to recognize it as a portable storage device. The user can then load the audio files to the watch disconnect and head out or work around the house with the playlist at their fingertips. Because it is a removable storage device, I created a folder and even dropped some documents onto the watch that could be retrieved later.

Controls on the AS1 Stereo Bluetooth HeadsetThe magic beyond the storing and playing of MP3's off this watch is its Bluetooth capability. Paired with the Gold Lantern AS1 Stereo Bluetooth headset, no wires, the freedom to move around or lounge without cables draped over you, is a pleasant use of the technology. The sound quality was rich and full with the AS1 headset which was comfortable and light and can also be used with A2DP mobile phones such as the Motorola E680i for streaming stereo music. The headset folds up neatly and can also be charged with USB or a small included power connector. Like most bluetooth headsets, controls on the headphone cup also allow for volume and play functions. A built in microphone will allow the headset to serve as a talk and listen device to use with a cell phone or wireless internet chat headsets as well as voice recording for important notes or later dictation. Pairing the headset and watch was a simple process, pushing the on button on the watch and then the headphones found each other in a matter of seconds. The manufacturer recommends a couple of minutes however our pairing was much faster than that. Pushing the play button and the music began streaming to the headphones. An EQ function on the watch can help the user get the most out of their sound files with Pop, Jazz, Classic, Rock or Flat for spoken word. Battery life for the watch is estimated to be about 12 hours of music and can be completely charged in about 3 to 4 hours. The Voice recording can be made with the watch and headphone microphone easily, A button on the watch can be pressed and a recording made stored for later playback or downloading to the PC.

The BlueX Watch and Headphones from Gold Lantern are available for around $299 and are available on the company website at http://www.goldlantern.com or other retailers.
