Going Postal - The Legacy Foretold
In this special TechtalkRadio segment, Andy, Shawn, Justin, and Matt sit down with documentary filmmakers Tad Sallee and Jason Sikorsky, the duo behind the eye-opening new film "Going Postal: The Legacy Foretold." This raw, unfiltered look into one of gaming’s most controversial franchises shines a spotlight on developers Mike J. and Vince Desi, the minds behind the infamously outrageous Postal video game series from Tucson-based studio Running With Scissors.
What started as a short-form YouTube project quickly escalated into a five-year filmmaking marathon, sparked by Tad and Jason’s chance meeting while giving away Clinique samples at the University of Arizona (yes, really). As the duo dove deeper into the story, they uncovered layers of legal battles, cultural backlash, and a passionate fight for freedom of speech in gaming—all backed by an impressive trove of interviews, archival content, and behind-the-scenes footage.
Shot across a wide variety of gear—from Canon C100s to Sony A73s and Red cameras—the film was a patchwork of creativity and perseverance. The editing process was equally demanding, with the team eventually migrating from Adobe Creative Suite to DaVinci Resolve, rebuilding the entire film from scratch to meet color grading demands and handle a massive 24TB of footage
The filmmakers give us a behind-the-scenes look at the technical challenges of cutting a documentary filled with voiceover legends like Rick Hunter, Corey Cruise, and Jon St. John, and share stories from their sold-out world premiere at the Phoenix Film Festival—where their film screened alongside Oliver Stone’s Platoon.
Tad also opens up about his company Playtest Network, which specializes in video game documentaries and is already generating buzz for future projects. The conversation spins into future possibilities, with Justin pitching a doc on Project Zomboid and Andy suggesting a full-blown video game history series in the style of the History Channel.
This episode is a must-listen for fans of indie filmmaking, video game culture, and the battles that happen off the screen.
